Reddit RSS is shutting down on November 13, 2026: what changes
Reddit will stop serving RSS feeds on Friday, November 13, 2026. If you follow subreddits in a feed reader, those feeds stop getting new posts that day. Here is what is ending, why Reddit says it is doing it, and what you can do before the cutoff.
What is ending
Every RSS feed served by Reddit. That includes:
- Subreddit feeds, like
reddit.com/r/cooking/.rss, and their sorted versions (new, top, rising). - Multireddits, like
/r/rust+golang/.rss, and custom feeds. - People: feeds of a user’s posts and comments.
- Searches, across all of Reddit or inside one subreddit.
- Comment feeds and single threads.
- Private feeds for your saved posts, upvotes and inbox.
It doesn’t matter which address you use. Feeds on www, old, new and mobile Reddit all stop together.
The timeline
- September 30, 2026. Reddit announces the end of RSS and a phased close of its public API.
- October 31, 2026. Reddit stops accepting new requests for public API access.
- November 13, 2026. RSS feeds stop. Readers get nothing new from Reddit after this.
- January 12, 2027. Last day for developers to register existing apps and bots to keep API access.
- March 2027. Reddit’s remaining public API endpoints close.
Why Reddit is doing it
Reddit says RSS “has now become a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse.” In other words, tools were using the feeds to copy posts in bulk. Closing the feeds closes that door, and ordinary readers lose them as a side effect.
Coverage of the change also links it to Reddit’s data business: Reddit licenses its posts to AI companies, and free, open feeds sit awkwardly next to that.
Is there a replacement?
Not for readers. Reddit has said there is no replacement for people who follow subreddits in a feed reader. Moderators are pointed to a Discord relay app that sends alerts to Discord, which doesn’t give you a feed either.
What keeps working
- Posts already in your reader stay there.
- Reddit’s website and apps work as usual.
- Every feed in your reader that isn’t from Reddit.
Services that turn Reddit into RSS for you, like RSSHub, RSS-Bridge or Open RSS, read from Reddit themselves. With the feeds and the public API both closing, they are very likely to stop too, so don’t move your subscriptions there.
What to do before November 13
- Export your feed list from your reader as an OPML file. Here’s how for every popular reader.
- Check it with the free checker to see exactly which feeds stop.
- Save your subreddit list as CSV, Markdown or JSON, so you remember what you followed.
- Pick alternatives for the topics you care about. These still give you a real feed.
- Clean up: import the new feeds, and remove the Reddit ones so your reader doesn’t fill with dead subscriptions.
